Flint River Park (Baconton)

This 16 acre park has a breathtaking view of the Flint River with campsites along the river. This is a great area for fishing, bird watching, or relaxing picnic. Professional fishing guides are available as well. It is located on Old Georgia Hwy 3.

Flint River Outpost, Baconton
The Flint River Outpost located in the Flint River Park provides canoes, and kayaks for rent. The Outpost has several trips to offer, however, the most popular trip is from the Radium Springs landing to the Flint River Outpost which is approximately 8 miles. All trips are furnished with a shuttle service, life jackets, flotation cushion, and paddles.

Camilla Depot/Art Gallery (Camilla)

The depot was Camilla’s hub for transporting crops back in the early 1900’s. It has been rebuilt and restored and it currently the city’s welcome center where local artist display their art. It is located at the intersection of US Hwy 19 and Broad Street.

Courthouse Square Park (Camilla)

The Courthouse Square Park is located behind the Mitchell County Courthouse. This lovely green space showcases the Courthouse Live Oaks, a group of 6, over 200 year old majestic Live Oak trees that are registered with the Georgia Urban Forest Council as “Landmark and Historic Trees.”

Carnegie Library (Pelham)

Built in 1908 with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andew Carnegie. The Pelham Historic Carnegie Library is one of only 24 Carnegie libraries built in Georgia. Still serving as a community library, the beautiful architecture in this historical building is a must see.

The Spirit of Camilla (Camilla)

Formally known as Engine #9, this locomotive was refurbished through the efforts of citizens in the community, is now the Spirit of Camilla.

Hand Trading Company Building (Pelham)

This building was the largest mercantile business in the South attracting people near and far to shop for everything from clothing to carriages, coffins to plows. It was built in 1913, by a local tycoon J.L. Hand, who was inspired by his visit to Marshall Field’s Department Store in Chicago, Illinois. Features of this 4 story building include 98,330 square feet, 100 massive columns that run from the foundation to the roof, a dome painted by an Italian artist, and 409 windows.

Mitchell County Courthouse (Camilla)

The Mitchell County Courthouse, built in 1936, is well known for its architecture and construction from beautiful white Georgia marble. It is located in downtown Camilla. This courthouse was the site of the 1868 “Camilla Massacre,” and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Jackson-Davis House (Baconton)

This Victorian home was built in 1891, and is known for its detailed architecture. It is significant in local history as the home of George W. Jackson, and today it is the city hall for Baconton. The Jackson-Davis House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sunset Historical Cemetery (Camilla)

This cemetery is the burial place for some of Mitchell County’s pioneer citizens, with the oldest documented grave being 1871. It is also registered on the Georgia Landmark and Historic Tree Register.
