Mitchell County Parks & Recreation Department
The county wide Recreation program is just one commitment that Mitchell County citizens have made to having a high quality of life in a rural setting. The Parks and Recreation Department provides a full compliment of services, including active and passive parks, recreation programs, athletic leagues, and summer programs. The Mitchell County Tennis Center under the direction of David Buerkle, Tennis Professional, currently offers many programs that include USTA supported tennis programs, leagues and clinics, USA Team Tennis, Tennis Camps, Advanced Academies, Wednesday Night Ladies Doubles, Monday Night Men’s Doubles, and private lessons.
The facilities and programs allow Mitchell County residents and visitors the opportunity to participate in leisure and sporting activities throughout the year.

The Parks and Recreation Department employees include:

Also part of the Recreation Department is John Singletary, owner and operator of Flint River Outpost, located at the Flint River Park offering canoe, and kayak rentals, fishing, and camping with RV hookups.

Parks
Properties managed by the Parks Division include several baseball, softball, and soccer fields, a walking track, 9 tennis courts, picnic areas, 3,900 seat football stadium and 20 acres of river front property.

Recreation
The Mitchell County Recreation Division is responsible for athletic programs and operation of facilities in Mitchell County. It is here where athletic programs, special events and activities are developed.

Quality programs for the community and its visitors include:

Year Round Activities
The Mitchell County Tennis Center currently offers many programs that include USTA supported tennis programs, leagues and clinics, USA Team Tennis, Tennis Camps, Advanced Academies, Wednesday Night Ladies Doubles, Monday Night Men’s Doubles, and private lessons.

Adult Fitness Classes, open for all ages and levels taught by a Certified Fitness Specialist. The Step Aerobics Class is a high energy, low impact aerobic class that incorporates steps into the class to improve cardiovascular endurance and strength. The Body Recall class is a total body strengthening class designed to shape, form and firm all the major muscle groups. Flexibility work is included.

Seasonal Activities
Swimming Facility
The swimming facility, open during the summer months, is available for groups in the mornings from 8 a.m. - noon
and open to the public from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
