Mitchell County was created in 1857, and is twenty second in size of 159 counties in the state with 514 square miles of beautiful countryside and bustling cities. The Flint River is the county's western border and US Highway 19, a major four lane corridor, passes all the way through it. Mitchell County’s population in 2010 was 24,118.
