Geography
Mitchell County is 514 square miles of beautiful countryside and quiet towns. With only 47 persons per square mile, there remains a country air about Mitchell County while being between Albany and Tallahassee. The county has the Flint River as its western border and US Highway 19 a major four lane corridor passing through its very heart.

Mitchell County is 200 miles south of Atlanta and 60 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida.

Mitchell County Natural Resources
Mitchell County is situated above the Clairborne Aquifer, one of the Floridan Aquifers. Average temperatures range from 38 degrees in the winter to 92 degrees in the summer. Annual rainfall averages 53 inches per year. Mitchell County’s winters are significantly milder than in other areas of the country.

Mitchell Electric Membership Cooperative (Mitchell EMC)
Mitchell EMC is a not-for-profit consumer owned electric cooperative that supplies energy to more than 25,000 accounts in Southwest Georgia. Organized and incorporated in 1937 to supply electricity to people that investor-owned utilities refused to serve, it is locally owned and operated, and is a cooperative type business. The corporation is headquartered in Camilla, GA with branch offices in Albany and Sylvester.

Georgia Power, the recipient of the 2001 IDRC Global Innovator Award for Economic Development, operates a full-service Community and Economic Development organization serving the entire state of Georgia. Their 75 year history of helping new and existing companies expand in Georgia is a result of experienced leadership, leading edge technology, targeted research and data management tools, and unique value added site selection services. At the same time, Georgia Power has been assisting Georgia communities build their economic development attractiveness by offering leadership, strategy, infrastructure, and marketing consultation services.
